Katabra Windham founded Big Paws Large Breed Rescue in 2008 with a simple but powerful mission: to provide a safe haven for dogs in need and ensure they are given a second chance at life. Her love for animals and unwavering commitment to their well-being have shaped the foundation of this rescue. 

Unlike many shelters, Katabra was determined to create a no-kill rescue that focuses on owner surrenders, allowing more dogs to find permanent, loving homes without the pressure of time constraints.

Over the years, she has dedicated her life to building a compassionate environment where every dog is treated with love and care. From intake to adoption, she ensures that every pet gets the time, attention, and resources they need to thrive. 

Beyond rescue work, she has played a crucial role in developing the organization’s additional services, including grooming, pet sitting, and even launching a high-quality gourmet dog food line. Katabra’s leadership has transformed Big Paws Large Breed Rescue into more than just a shelter—it’s a place of hope, healing, and new beginnings for countless dogs and the families who adopt them.
